Now, it's time to pick out a winner. In the second round Mozilla once again ask the wider community to cast their vote for real winner. In this second round, voters will be able to rank three of the ten remaining submissions on a scale from one to five. Mozilla Labs announced, "On the back of our announcement from Friday, we finished the first round of voting in the Mozilla Labs ‘The Home Tab’ Design Challenge, identified the Top 10 concepts and moved them into a second round of voting. In the second round we will once again ask the wider community to cast their vote – this time on three randomly selected concepts out of the top 10. Voting will be open until midnight March 1st,"
The user who participated in the first round will be able to keep their login credentials and email addresses to vote in the second round as well. If you're new, all you need to do is to submit your email address and then confirm it, watch out for spam filters not letting Mozilla's confirmation request email through, and that's it, you're all set to cast your votes. With just three concepts to choose from, people should have a better chance of focusing on them to make a more informed decision. And the maker is keeping it interesting by promising "a fat Mozilla swag-pack" to five more people on top of the ones already chosen in the first round.
Some fun stats from the first round of voting:
In the first round of voting, 2,228 people registered, out of those 2,021 confirmed their registration (the other 207 most likely had our confirmation email caught by their spam filters). Out of those 2,021 confirmed voters, a total of 1,187 submitted votes, resulting in a total of 5,390 valid votes. Thus each concept had an average of 112 votes (which is statistically relevant) – the lowest average score was 1.56, the highest average score was 3.67.
If you submitted a concept to the Design Challenge, we will follow up via email and let you know what your score was. We also randomly selected 5 people from the pool of confirmed voters who submitted at least one vote and contact them via email regarding our swag bag.
