Linux is always referred as the most secured and main choice for servers and now according to new report its also the 1st choice for the Top 500 Project lists the 500 fastest supercomputers. According to the biannual Top 500 supercomputer list has been released this year’s and in terms of the operating system used it is Linux all the way with more than 90% of the supercomputers running on Linux. Though still Linux is not the choice for a general user as regular uses on a PC. Mostly preferred to use Windows on PCs as its conventional and easy.
Though it is not very surprising that Linux is generally preferred in servers ans supercomputers but the high percentage 91% is surely surprising. See in this image the large box is more powerful supercomputer and Linux rules them.
You can also view this diagram in other forms like country-wise breakup , manufature-wise breakup etc. All these details available on an interactive form at bbc.co.uk.
Also if you want the actual numerical breakup of the Operating System Family, just visit at top500 site.
All these stats showing the real power of Linux and now we can understand why employee at Google wants to change their operating system to Linux. I'm also a Linux fan.
