Finnish manufacturer Nokia and one of the major operator in India, Reliance Communications have announced the launch of online mobile application store Nokia Ovi in Indian. The partnership allows Reliance subscribers to buy premium content on Ovi Store and pay along with their mobile phone bills without having to pay through their credit cards. Reliance subscribers can now opt to include the billed amount either in their monthly phone bills for postpaid users or have it deducted from their pre-paid balance as per their data plans.
This service starting this month. Before this sevice, Indian customers had to use their credit cards in order to buy anything from the Ovi Store. But now prices will also be available in INR (Indian Rupees).
Prashant Gokarn, 3G business head of Reliance Communications, said, "Nokia and RCom have had a longstanding and an extremely fruitful association. This relationship brings exclusive apps through Ovi Store coupled with a convenient purchase process."
V Ramnath, the director of operator channels at Nokia India, said, "The response from consumers in India has already exceeded our expectations with the number of weekly downloads crossing 4.5 million. We believe our partnership will help accelerate this further.
Reliance Communications is the first Indian operator to offer the integrated billing option after this partnership. Though this agreement between Nokia and Reliance will only for March 2011 currently. Nokia also planning to introduce the integrated billing option with other Indian operators.
Nokia Ovi Store is a online mobile apps store only for Nokia devices. Nokia Ovi Store has millions of applications, games, videos, podcasts, productivity tools, web and location-based services and lots more to offer its user worldwide. Nokia Ovi Store was launched in 2009 and now has about 28 million downloads per week. Remember that about 4.5 million downloads are from India only.
