Nokia 3D World Gaze is a new app from Nokia Beta Labs which gives you a new perspective on the world, in 3D. With this app, you can learn about different cities or countries on the planet just by pointing your phone in its general direction, using GPS and the built-in compass. We’ve got the details, after the jump.
With this free experimental app, all you need to do to learn about foreign climes is to browse the world by pointing your phone in any direction. Your phone will know which way it’s pointing and where it is due to the built-in compass and GPS receiver – so, obviously this only works on devices with these features – and will then show you some information about that place – when you press on its name.
The information is piped in from services, such as: panoramio.com; wikinews.org; wikipedia.org; and geonames.org right to your screen on a 3D representation of this lovely planet. Bearing in mind that this app retrieves data from online sources, you’ll also need a cheap data connection of some type to use Nokia 3D World Gaze.
If, for example, you live in Birmingham and point the phone directly north, you’re likely to see detailed information of Edinburgh or Scotland, with the added bonus of being able to see geotagged media in the forms of images. So you know what you can expect to see, should you chose to make a trip there one day. Even pointing your phone directly downwards, will show you what’s on the other side of the world.
As Nokia 3D World Gaze is currently in beta phase, your input is really important to making this an amazing app. Nokia 3D World Gaze is available for the Nokia N8, Nokia C6-01, Nokia E7, Nokia C7, Nokia E6 and the Nokia X7 means all Symbian^3 smartphones.
