Google Internet Bus Now in West Bengal

The Internet Bus Project by Google now reaches in West Bengal to educate peoples about Internet. The Google Internet Bus is a special project by Google to educate people about what the Internet is, and how it may be beneficial to their lives.

The Google Internet Bus enable people to enjoy the Internet experience to through a customized Internet-enabled bus, which will travel to several towns and cities across India. The bus will showcase informative content in different local languages like Hindi, Bengali as well as in English. The visitors here learning about services like search, email, social networking and online maps. The bus will also showcase how Internet services can be used on a mobile device. The Google Internet Bus currently in visit of several areas of West Bengal and current stop is Chandannagar.

According to a post by Nishant Nair, Program Manager, Google India, "While Kolkata has 30 lakh Internet users, the rest of West Bengal is predominantly offline. Out of all the Internet users across India more than 60% hail from non-metro cities and small towns."

Before the West Bengal tour, the bus was successfully visited in Bihar and around 10 lakh people visited the Internet Bus. In West Bengal the bus will stay for two month and will cover following stops: Kolkata, Durgapur, Asansol, Kharagpur, Uluberia, Chandannagar, Behrampore, Haldia, Bankura & Puruliya.

Nishant Nair added, "The Google Internet Bus project has already visited 11 states of India, covering more than 2500 locations and touching the lives of more than 65,00,000 Indians across 130 towns. Surveys have indicated that more than 20,00,000 people have gone online for the first time after visiting the Google Internet Bus. We will also continue to engage cyber cafĂ© owners and school teachers with an aim to build local advocacy for this powerful medium".
