Microsoft Announced Windows Phone 8 Operating System with New Features

Microsoft has unveiled its next-generation Windows Phone 8 operating system at Windows Phone Summit. New Windows Phone 8 offers lots of features and enhancements over old Windows Phone 7. Checkout features and what's new in Windows Phone 8 below.

Though the big disappointment for current user its that Microsoft also mentioned that the new platform is not compatible with current Windows Phone devices, means current user will never get a Windows Phone 8 OS update.

Microsoft also confirmed it will be using Qualcomm chips in future Windows Phone 8 devices. The Next generation of Windows Phone 8 devices will use Qualcomm chips. Microsoft announced that Qualcomm will be the sole provider of dual core SoCs for initial launch devices from hardware partners Nokia, Huawei, Samsung, and HTC. The Windows Phone 8 would arrive on better hardware than before, including devices with multiple processors and the OS can support up to 64 processors on the same device. Support for more powerful GPUs will also be included in the OS, so that users would benefit from a better multimedia and gaming experience. This mean we will see first dual core and even quad core Windows Phone 8 smartphones soon.

Also new Windows Phone 8 will support microSD cards to allow users to increased storage space as they wants. Windows Phone 8 will also add support for more screen resolutions, including WVGA, WXVGA and true 720p. Windows Phone 8 will be pre-loaded with Internet Explorer 10, which should deliver the same experience that IE10 on Windows 8 has to offer, including the same level of security and browsing experience on mobile. Windows Phone 8 will features a new Start screen and it'll be more customizable than before. It'll allow you to change the size of live tiles and lots more. This also included built-in Nokia mapping services support, turn-by-turn navigation, and will arrive with encryption and secure boot for Enterprise users.

Windows Phone 8 will arrive on shelves with a shared core with Microsoft's Windows 8 platform and will be released by end of 2012, with elements common with Windows 8, including kernel, networking, multimedia, driver support. For developers, Microsoft announced the availability of native code for developers, so that better applications and gaming would be possible. Microsoft demoed a Nokia development device, which features a dual-core application processor, a higher resolution screen, and other hardware designed for Windows Phone 8.
