According to IT research firm IDC the sales of personal computers in India increased 26% in the December quarter 2009, from a year ago, indicating a strengthening recovery. Desktop computer sales growth by 14.6 percent over last year to 1.27 million units and notebook PC sales growth by more than half to 693,911 units in the quarter, taking the total to 1.97 million units in the December quarter.
IDC India's country manager Kapil Dev Singh said that With multiple factors like economic revival, technological developments, increasing relevance for the users and right price points all converging, we are at the beginning of yet another growth curve in the domestic PC market.
According them, however the seasonality factor saw overall PC sales fall 10.3 percent on quarter. Dell displaced market leader Hewlett-Packard (HP) to become India's top seller of notebook PCs, helping it erode the market share of top-ranked HP and third-place Acer in the overall PC market.
HP it the top in market share in the overall PC market with a share of 16.2 percent, followed by Dell and Acer at 13.6 percent and 10.4 percent share respectively.
