Be Aware of Free Recharge Code Scam on Orkut

Alert if you're looking for a free recharge code on Orkut. Scammers are tricking Orkut users into pasting malicious JavaScript code in their browser's address bar, with the promise of receiving a free recharge code for their mobile phones. Users who fall for the scam end up with their Google login credentials stolen. Your chance of a free recharge code may loose up your all Google details.

 
In this fraud, users receiving a link on Orkut that takes them to a website displaying a big banner like you see in image. This says, "Recharge your mobile here!" The user will receive a free recharge code in their Orkut scrapbook if they copy and paste some JavaScript code into the address bar. This'll force the browser to access a Snurl.com shortened URL. When you do that, you'll moved toward orkutaddict(dot)net/freerecharge/dpd(dot)js. If you you’re logged into Orkut this time you'll be victim of this scam. 


If you're not login to your Google account or Okrut, you'll see a JavaScript alert instructing to log in to Orkut account in order to receive the promised free code that recharges their call credit. After closing this alert, you'll be taken to a phishing page displaying a fake Google Account sign-in form. And you'll loose your Google/Orkut account details at this point.

If you already logged in, you'll see a different series of alerts, including the one that asks them for their phone number and claiming that they are getting closer to receiving that code. When all alerts are over, they are also redirected to a phishing site. Also this scam to start sending out messages advertising this scam through your Orkut profiles right away. You'll also automatically join a group called "Free Mobile Recharge!". 

Such type of Orkut scan mostly popular in India or countries where rechargeable prepaid phone cards are more popular than monthly subscriptions. More that seventy percent of Orkut users are from Brazil or India.
