India Has the Third Most Internet Users in the World

According to Google India, India has the third most internet users in the world. India has a user base of 100 million and now stands third in the world in terms of the number of people surfing the net. Vinay goel, head of products, Google India said in Kolkata on Tuesday. China at top with 300 million users while US in 2nd place with 207 million users.

He said, "China has the highest number of internet users at 300 million followed by the US with 207 million. India comes third with the number of internet users now soaring to 100 million". More than a third of that 100 million is made up by 40 million mobile internet users, a fact that puts India’s growth potential in perspective – seeing as that is just 8% of the total mobile phone subscriber base in the country. The number of mobile internet surfers in India is growing rapidly.
In 2007, the country had only two million such users. Now the number has gone up 20 timesEstimate is that by 2012, the number of mobile internet users will surpass those entering the net via their laptops or desktops. Goel also pointed out that a majority of the internet users in the country searched for and downloaded music.


“Our estimate is that by 2012, the number of mobile internet users will surpass those entering the net via their laptops or desktops. The number of mobile internet surfers in India is growing rapidly. In 2007, the country had only two million such users. Now the number has gone up 20 times,” Vinay Goel added.
