Android is taking high growth and getting more popular day by day and now Android has beaten Apple iOS in terms of app downloads in the second quarter of 2011.
This is according to a recent report by ABI Research, a case study by technology research firm. The new report stats that Android had a market share of 44% as compared to Apple’s 31% in Q2. The main reason behind this could be a 36 percent jump in Android phone shipments from the previous three months and while the iPhone got only 9% growth in same time frame. But if we compare the per user statistics, Apple iOS app downloads per user beat Android app downloads by a factor of two.
Google introduced Android in 2007 as an open-source platform, allowing any phone maker to use it for free and focus on designing hardware rather than software. Open source software makes it easy to more third-party developers and more applications to develop for Android platform.
“Android’s app downloads per user still lag behind Apple’s by 2 to 1,” said Dan Shey, practice director of mobile services at ABI. Apple has better monetary policies thus creating an ecosystem of a much better library of applications and an improved customer experience."
