The lowest cost tablet PC in the world Aakash was launched in India last year by Datawind and now the they ready to out the 2nd commercial upgraded version of its Aakash tablet as Ubislate7+. The new Ubislate7+ offer Android 2.3 and faster 700 Mhz processor.
The so called $35 Aakash tablet was first distributed to students in India for free. The Aakash's fist commercial version Ubislate7 tablet was features Android Froyo 2.2 operating system, 7 inch resistive touchscreen, WiFi connectivity and a 366 MHz processor from Conexant. Tablet also features a HD video Co-Processor and graphic accelerator, 256 MB RAM and its weighs is 350 grams. A leather case also included with this tablet PC. It was launched in December.
The new retail commercial upgraded version by the UK-based manufacturing company Datawind which called Ubislate7+ and it will be available for only Rs. 2,999 (around $60) including taxes with one year of warranty. The specification of Ubislate7+ will be much better than older and it will have faster Cortex A8- 700 Mhz processor, 3200 mAh battery for up to 5 hours backup and new Android 2.3 OS.
This version also features WiFi, phone functionality and GPRS connectivity unlike the student version which is limited to Wi-Fi connectivity. It also features full sized USB port & Micro-SD slot to expand memory upto 32GB. You can use any ordinary pen-drive or even plug-in a 3G dongle. This'll be available in around Feb 2012.
The CEO of DataWind, Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli says "This is a made-in-India product. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to do this.’ He adds, ‘The final goal is to either provide the same features at a lower cost or provide better functionality and features at the same cost."
The Ubislate7+ tablet will be commercially available everywhere and to everyone. This next generation of Aakash is loaded with better features and specifications, and any person can buy it.
According to Datawind CEO Suneet Singh Tuli, company was received pre-bookings from individuals more than 108,000 for its first Ubislate7 tablets and expressions of interest from various companies for 2.2 million units. Though the first Ubislate table is now out of stock. Datawind is also planning to release an LTE version of Ubislate with Reliance Communication to utilized upcoming 4G services next year in India.
